The security restrictions of the Flash Player prevent you from reading or touching anything on the local machine.
Can I not look up a value in the registry in Flex Builder 3 as well? I need to look into the registry to see what the regional setting is so I can format the date according to locale setting. If I cant look up the registry, is there another way to do that besides using locale.getcurrent(application.application.systemmanger) cause that doesnt grab the correct locale setting. (i think that grabs the locale string for operating system. right?)
No, you cannot access the registry or any other client asset from withing a Flex app running in a browser.
AIR apps have fewer restrictions.
If the user's locale information is available in the browser http headers, then the flex html wrapper could read it and pass it into the Flex app.
I do not do enough with locales to know.
