Still images painfully slow in CS6 on Macbook Pro

    hugemittons

      Machine specs:

      15" Macbook Pro mid 2012

      OS X 10.8.1

      2.3GHz Intel Core i7

      16GB 1333 MHz DDR3

NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 512 MB

If I use any stills in Premiere Pro CS6 on my machine it causes my system to practically die. If I click a still image in the timeline, or move the marker over it, without fail I will have to wait about 15 seconds for it to catch up with me.

I have seen this thread and it was sadly not much help. I can't actually seem to find an option in settings to select software rendering...?

I have tried using both JPEG and TIFF, it doesn't make a difference. Neither does resizing all my images to the max width of the sequence (1080p 25) or changing down the playback res to 1/4.

I'm wondering if it could be a hardware issue? Sometimes it causes a fleeting 'glitch' on the screen.

This being said, I can do practically anything to huge JPEGs in After Effects and it handles them like a champ. Different processing engines?

Any help from someone who has experienced the same or knows more than I do would be appreciated.

      Thanks in advance
