Can DW apply a 'master' template ACROSS sites?

    nheaps
      Hi,

I'm using DW8.02 to manage several sites.

While each site does have its own 'local' template in the Templates directory, I want to implement the idea of a 'master' template that applies to ALL sites. This master template will contain stuff common to ALL my sites, and each individual site's template will be nested within this master template.

What I'd really like to be able to do is to define this 'master' template once only (in one of my sites) and have it update ALL sites (not just the one I've defined it in) when I change it. I can't find a way of doing this -- does anyone know how to, please? The problem I seem to be having is that DW seems to treat different sites completely separately, and that there seems to be no notion of considering other sites during template updates.

(I know I could have a duplicate copy of the 'master' template for EACH site, but then I would have to update it in several places whenever there are changes!)

Many thanks in advance, and I hope someone has an idea about how to do this!

      Kind regards,

      Nick

          You cannot.

What if you defined a “Master Site” with your master template and include all of your sites in this master site, while still maintaining them separately. In other words, let’s assume you have three sites defined as follows:

            DW Web Site 1
            c:\clients\site1\index.html
            c:\clients\site1\images\ (default images folder)

            DW Web Site 2
            c:\clients\site2\index.html
            c:\clients\site2\images\

            DW Web Site 3
            c:\clients\site3\index.html
            c:\clients\site3\images

Now define a fourth, Master Site, with your root folder as c:\clients\ and home page c:\clients\index.html. Since the folders \site1, \site2 and \site3 are included in your site, I believe any templates you create would affect pages within those folders. Of course, this is just a “shot in the dark”, as I have not really thought it out; however, at first glance, it appears as though it may work for you.

            What do you think?

A big freaking mess. Although clever, I really only think this would add
complexity to the situation. The problem would be in the use of templates
              in the subsites, I think....
