Scaling HD footage to SD for DVD in CS3

      Hi everyone

I'm looking for advice in scaling HD footage edited on a sequence in CS3 down to m2v files (through as few steps as possible) to obtain the best results I can on a DVD. I have recently been working on a project which produced results which were not ideal on the DVD, especially on the graphics (primarily text created in the titler - they looked very blocky/ degraded quality) though some of the pictures also were not great. My footage is originally 1920x1080 i @ 25 fps.

I transcoded out of Premiere using the Matrox Media encoder with VBR 2 pass, target 7 Mbps. I know CS4 has a "Use maximum quality" option but I do not on CS3. Luckily I will be upgrading to CS6 soon but I have another project to complete in CS3.

I'm not sure I can improve the settings I have used within Premiere, so I am looking immediately for options such as, should I export my project to a full-quality AVI using the "Export Movie" with Matrox DV encoder, open a SD project and do the titles within this, as I understand scaling graphics never works well. I would then transcode from my SD project to m2v files. This would be a unwelcome additional step.

I also have a copy of Canopus Procoder 3 which I used to convert a full-quality Matrox MPEG2 1080i file down to m2v. I didn't think the quality of this transcode was any better.

I understand there are other software packages which may do a better job. Possibly using After Effects, it suggests the conversion would take 100 hours!

Does anyone recommend either of the following to do this job: Telestream Episode, Soreson Squeeze 6.

Hopefully my upgrade to CS6 will improve this, but I an anxious to find a workflow in the next few days which will improve the results and not break the bank too much.

      Many thanks

      Daniel
