1. Re: Opacity & transparency related layer styles lost on rasterize/flatten/merge down (cs6)
Curt Y Oct 18, 2012 5:46 PM (in response to graphicgoose)Are any of your layers smart objects? Perhaps that might effect output.

graphicgoose Oct 18, 2012 5:48 PM (in response to Curt Y)They're not no! I also tried making the offending layers into smart objects...just in case. That didn't work either.

charles badland Oct 23, 2012 5:30 PM (in response to graphicgoose)By "folders" do you mean Groups? I wonder if changing the Blend Mode in the group from Pass Through to Normal would make a difference?

5. Re: Opacity & transparency related layer styles lost on rasterize/flatten/merge down (cs6)
graphicgoose Oct 23, 2012 5:36 PM (in response to charles badland)Yup, I mean groups! Sorry about that...
Changing the blend mode of the group does make a difference! If I put it onto normal...it results in the same visual as flattening does (e.g. not good!). How can I apply this new found knowledge to retain translucency when merging?

6. Re: Opacity & transparency related layer styles lost on rasterize/flatten/merge down (cs6)
charles badland Oct 23, 2012 8:32 PM (in response to graphicgoose)Yeah, right. I've run into this before... And you need to keep transparency in each group? Right?
I can't remember how/if I resolved it. Or exactly what blend settings are associated with it.
It is a workflow issue, not a problem with Photoshop.
Let me go back to some older files to see what I did to workaround this.

7. Re: Opacity & transparency related layer styles lost on rasterize/flatten/merge down (cs6)
graphicgoose Oct 24, 2012 10:52 AM (in response to charles badland)Yep, I have to retain transparency across the board!
If you figured out a workaround for this issue I would be so stoked! Thank you.

8. Re: Opacity & transparency related layer styles lost on rasterize/flatten/merge down (cs6)
charles badland Oct 24, 2012 11:40 AM (in response to graphicgoose)Yeah, I think you are asking Photoshop to do something it can not do. A layer can just have one blend mode. Or it can have one blend mode then added Effects with a different blend modes. When you Merge into one layer, you are going to lose that.

9. Re: Opacity & transparency related layer styles lost on rasterize/flatten/merge down (cs6)
graphicgoose Oct 24, 2012 11:49 AM (in response to charles badland)Hrmm...strange! I am sure I have done it before with other buttons. Ah well, I will have a play and see what I can come up with.
Thanks for your time!

ganeshkmr80 Mar 12, 2013 5:05 PM (in response to graphicgoose)I also had this problem. what i did was exporting individual
layers as .png and importing it again into photoshop.

11. Re: Opacity & transparency related layer styles lost on rasterize/flatten/merge down (cs6)
Noel Carboni Mar 12, 2013 6:42 PM (in response to graphicgoose)Generally speaking you can't expect to collapse groups of adjustment layers into a single layer and hope for much of anything useful to come of it.
If you've gotten Photoshop showing what you want to see, what's the problem with leaving the groups as they are, then just doing Save As (e.g., PNG) to store your work products?
Can you save a small PSD file and make it available online, so we can look carefully inside it to see what you're doing?

fattyfatfat1 Nov 7, 2014 7:51 PM (in response to graphicgoose)Ya i've always had this issue as well.
If they ever figure out how to fix this, it will make every single day easier for me.
If enough people make a feature request they might figure it out....
