Has anyone had success in people paying paypal after an order?
We have paypal set up perfectly for checkout. Customer pay then they come back to our website and see they have paid.
But if the customer gets an order and then logs in online to pay it (e.g http://bit.ly/Uc85R5), Paypal will take them to their payment page, take the payment but when it takes them back to our site an error message comes up:
ERROR: An unknown error occurred. This is most likely due to the merchant profile not being set up correctly. Please contact your system administrator for help.
The payment works though, it's just the redirect page confirming their payment. I think the reason for the error is something to do with the code.
All paypal settings are fine and as per business catalyst knowledge base.
- The only thing I can think to do is create an item called "Payment" and send the customers the Payment link to pay for their order - ie adding the payment item to a new cart and checking out like that. Any advice?
Best,
DD
Hi DD,
Usually when seeing the "merchant profile" error there is a mismatch with your PayPal credentials.
Please double check this with PayPal and also you are using the primary email address associated with your PayPal account.
If still no luck I would recommend submitting a support case to us and providing your details so we can verify the details and your set-up.

Hi DD
Did you resolve this? I have the exact same issue. Any tips?
Thanks

Hi Simon,
No - it just doesn't look possible - but the payment does go through it's just a horrible error message that displays.
What we do now is have a normal checkout then a get a quote button down the bottom and people can then pay paypal direct. http://tinyurl.com/cgl84t9
When I first looked into this there were 10 people in a week wanting to pay later etc, now it's dropped down a lot so until BC fixes the returning URL error page we are just going to leave as is. Plus now we create a unique item (for special product customers) then they can just go and order it and paypal normally then.
Hope that helps.

Sidney, this paypal standard they using?
If it is then if you get a quote to pay later it will never work unless it is a seamless payment gateway as it is now outside the eCommerce payment environment process and more like a payment form.
Am I correct?

Correct Liam we do not have an option for non-seamless gateways.

So my Question to Dandy is - Are you using paypal standard?
If so then quote payments will not work. Only with a Seamless Payment Gateway.

Hi Liam and Sidney
Thanks for chipping in. To be clear, is it that PayPal Standard does not work in BC with the e-commerce option in standalone forms?

Correct Simon.
Standalone forms can only use "seamless" gateways so PayPal Payflow is an example of a gateway that will work. PayPal Standard is considered "non-seamless" because it requires to redirect customers to PayPal to complete transaction.
Hope this helps!

And at this time non Seamless will only work in the eCommerce with the payment occuring there and then. So having a form to take quote payments indeed needs to have a seamless payment gateway.

It's bit shame that it processes money fine via Paypal but gives error on return page and when you insert payment option in webform it inserts Paypal option as if it should work.
A lot of people doing simple one page purchases thesedays and BC is missing this, so I was trying to replicate the "simple buy" process using standalone webform then faced this problem.
Are we expecting to see this in the future ? A lot of things were added to feature request list over last couple of years but I don't see anything happening yet.

I agree with Min that this is a feature we could use, particuarly as BC is geared more to small business users (it's admin user limits and email user limits for example). Small business users need that simple PayPal option to collect and process payments.
Seamless gateways are fine for full-on stores, but if a client is collecting a fee for service or subscription for a small number of customers, then it's hard to justify the cost of setting up and processing seamless gateway payments.
Also note that outside the US there are countries were a seamless gateway is not available or very complex for novice clients to arrange.

Hi Min & Simon,
Sad it's still not working!
We've also noticed that customers aren't being sent back to our page on normal checkout - our settings in paypal show they should be sent back but aren't. Have you noticed this too?

@Dandy... it's an issue with BC, the way they have designed it, at this time it does not work with PayPal Standard. There's no issue it seems with PayPal. Put the hard word on BC to enable full PayPal support. Seems important that BC support the world's most popular payment method.

Hi guys,
To clarify our PayPal Standard (non-seamless) gateway integration is working fine. If you are having some sort of redirection error or seeing any error in general please either submit an official case for further investigation or reach out to our direct chat support.
This includes the the pay later option when selected.

All other feature besides this is a feature request unfortunately. Please let us know if you have any further question but if having problems with the current set-up please contact us via case or live chat so we can help resolve accoridingly.
Thanks,
-Sidney

@Dandy,
I think it's beyond this conversation and the Paypal standard should work fine on normal check out using base eCommerce functionality. (Registraion - Buy)
Regardless the auto return url you inserted in Paypal, users are redirected to www.yourdomain.com/PaymentProcess.aspx
Make sure the auto return and payment data transfer are ON then also make sure the payment data transfer token is correctly are set up in BC payment gateway.
This should work fine then unless there's a particular server issue ( I doubt it )

@ Sidney
To be clear, are your saying that the issue first raised (above) by DandyDahlia is resolved?

@Simon - Redirection when using PayPal Standard is not a current issue. So this could be that the return url is applied incorrectly as Min suggested or the domain set-up is not properly correct. Which is why I recommend reaching direct support via chat or submitting a case for further investigation of the set-up within the site.
There's no issue with PayPal Standard set-up as the feature to collect payment from customer or to record payment at a later time are both working normally at the moment. All other requests are feature requests otherwise.

Hey Sidney,
Confusion here Simon.
Paypal or any other non seamless payment gateway will NOT work with custom web forms!
If you have eCommerce and you take payments on products with paypal and also offer on order or recuring order as well - this will not work. Because you need a custom web form to take those payments.

Apologies as Liam is correct....thanks for clearing that up.
The only option is to use a seamless gateway at this stage if needing to use custom form. There's no other options unfortunately.
All other functionality with non-seamless gateways when used within the shop layout is working as normal.
Thanks,
-Sidney

I'm having the same issue with this error message appearing after processing a successful event sale/ticket.
What I find absolutely frustrating is that
a/ Taking payments for booking/events is as cluncky as it is
b/ That nowhere does it say that non-seamless gateways are not compatible on webforms
c/ Despite numerous support tickets to BC - none of this has been brought to my attention and instead (and typically) BC palm the issue off as an issue with Paypal. Does anyone know if reverting the Return URL in Paypal to a normal webpage will work?

I think I tried that without success.
It's frustrating, and kind of dumb too when you consider customers would simply expect it to work like other shopping experiences.
Other gateway options are not always practical or economical for small business users, especicially outside the US.

The next thing I am about to try is to turn off Paypal Auto return all together, and set the booking webform to 'redirect after submit'.
Hopefully that overrides sending the customer to /Paymentprocess.aspx page?

Hi katrina,
a- Bookings is one of the older parts of the BC system
b - Several places in the Documention and the BC website it states payment on custom web forms is seamless only.
c- More often then not it is paypal setup issues. Personally the amount of people blaming BC for payment gateway setups 90% of them if not more are incorect details entered into BC or setup incorectly on the payment gateway side. So You will get those 1st level support requests to go through all that very carefully.
@Todd - The wishlist was decomissioned as it was not a really useful tool. It did not really reflect the actual requirements or sollutions that need to happen in the right orders to achieve what we all need. Many people want something but not sure on how the solution should be done to achieve that. Most of the top end of the wishlist were things that should not have been there.
Booking system is a bit crap and that is why I build more often then not with web apps or the eCommerce.
