    InDesign CS5 won’t launch - missing plug-ins

    BongoBongo

InDesign CS5 won’t launch on Windows 7. I get the following error messages:
      Entry Point Not Found.jpg
      Cannot load the LINKS.RPLN plug-in

Cannot load the FONT USAGE DIALOG.RPLN plug-in
Cannot load the XMEDIA UI.RPLN plug-in
After these error messages InDesign crashes.
Do I need to reinstall the plug-ins?
If yes, how do I do that?

Those are required plugins that should have been instaalled with the application. Did it ever run?

I would uniinstall, run the clean tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) then restart Windows. Run MSconfig to turn off non-essential startup programs and services -- especially anti-virus and malware scanners, browser helpers and toolbars, iTunes and instant messengers -- then run the installer again. You can re-run MSconfig afterward to restore normal startup.

            Hi Peter,

Thanks for your reply to my question. The initial installation of CS5 was quite a hassle and took a while to get done with the help of Adobe Help Centre. Got it working smooth for the last 3 months, no plug-in errors at all. However yesterday out of the blue InDesign stop working. At the beginning of your  reply you’ve mentioned to uninstall, then run CS Cleaner. Do you mean uninstall CS5. As it was a hassle to get CS5 going in the beginning I was hoping there would be another solution, such as re-installing the missing plug-ins.

I did mean uninstall and reinstall the whole thing, but you can try just running the installer again without uninstalling first, and in your shoes I probably would. Youu should see an option to "repair" the original install, and you might get lucky and it will work. In theory I suppose you could copy the plugins from another machine, but I doubt it will work, and it's just masking the underlying problem.

Don't forget to run the updater again after whatever repair/reinstall you do.

I couldn't find a repair option so tried to reinstall InDesign as you've suggested. This doesen't seem to work either, as I received the following installation error:

Something is TERRIBLY wrong. CS5 is certainly supported on Windows 7.

Are you installing to the default directories? Did you run the clean tool?

                    Hi Peter,
Thanks for your help. I've tried a few other options and it just seems to create a few more problems.
It looks like the initial installation was not done correctly despite the help from Adobe Help Centre. So it looks like the best options would be to clear the HD and start form scratch.
