I've been using Premiere Pro for about a decade now, since before it became Pro and was just Premiere. I've never seen or even heard of that error message.
Let me tag on some things if thats okay. Is it perfectly acceptable workflow to have several or more dynamic links between premiere and after effects? Or should I be handling volume separately, export the comps from AE and import them into premiere? I prefer the linking since it saves time and changes can be made immediately in AE.
Link as often as you want. But I find things work best when you keep all links in the same AE project.
Adobe Dynamic Link has a bug related to incremental naming (at least in CS5.5)
Therefore, there two workarounds:
- keep all Dynamic Links for a single PrPro project in a single AE project;
- avoid incremental numbers at the end of AE project names.
Understanding how Dynamic Link works gives you a flexibility to store different dynamically linked compositions for a single PrPro project in different AE projects, because storing them into the same AE project sometimes may be unwise or simply impossible.

Thanks Fuzzy! That's actually very helpful..and that hyperlink you sent me to is very good stuff.
