MPEG Streamclip also exhibits the same issue. Its seems more systemic and an issue of HP and / or Win 7 from what experts tell me in this phase of the troubleshooting process.

Does that put the hard drive back to "factory default" condition?
If yes, you MAY have "something" from HP that is causing your problem
I have NO idea if this applies to your computer... but may be worth reading
