    Database-Modified Drawings

A client wants to modify vector drawings automatically via database, preferrably Microsoft Sharepoint Server running SQL. The modifications could be as simple as changing the color of a flag or overlay or as complicated as changing object dimensions and appearance.

I'm thinking SVG, but is there a more efficient method, something that can modify Illustrator files directly?

      Thanks in advance.

in theory, it could be done, Javascript does not talk to SQL directly but if the data is exported to a CSV file it could be read by Javascript.

On the other hand if Visual Basic is able to read the SQL DB then it could talk to Illustrator directly, that would be a Windows only approach.

either way, depending on what's needed, it could be easy, hard or simply impossible. Illustrator DOM is very limited, half the features are not accessible to scripting.
