Edge doesn't support audio yet, but I believe that there are some work-arounds. Here's a link to another forum post that talks a little about it and, if you do a search, there's probably more information and solutions out there as well.
You can manually add an audio element into the Stage div in your html file. Use notepad if you wish.
<body style="margin: 0; padding: 0; height: 100%;">
<div id="Stage" class="EDGE-282667676">
<audio id="screamer" preload="auto">
<source src="sounds/scream.ogg" type="audio/ogg">
<source src="sounds/scream.mp3" type="audio/mpeg">
When you open the html file in Edge Animate you will see the audio element on your timeline. You can set its playback to start from any point.
Add multiple source files because browsers support different audio formats. HTML5 will load the first one that it finds works. IE and Chrome are OK. Firefox is silent and reports an error inside the Edge script.
how do you get audio to auto play on a DPS cover page?
Have you tried setting the playback to "Play" at the start of your timeline? You could also try manually adding autoplay="autoplay" to the audio tag.
Just import the audio file, select it, then open the overlay panel and check the auto play box
I don't see any menu choice for importing audio files into Edge Animate. How did you do it?
sorry my reply was to SFS-DPS uato play audio in a DPS page; not sure whay that was asked on the Animate Forum:-)
You can give EdgeCommons a try, it lets you easily use sound in Edge Animate with the help of sound.js:
Looking to have audio Autoplay....Got that to work in web Browser. However when I place indesign DPS it does not work on ipad?
I've just tried to use this, seemed like a wonderfully simple and easy solution only I've followed the very simple steps and can't seem to make it work. I'm going to run through the procedure again just to be sure I haven't made an error but am wondering if there are any obvious reasons I might be having a problem or if there is any further documentation/discussion about this library anywhere?
Tested in Chrome and Firefox, could that be the issue?
one simple way to import audio from inside edge without editing the html-file is like this:
song = new Audio();
song.src = "http://www.url....song.mp3";
you can put this anywhere you want and play() and pause() the audio from any script of your composition. I just could not find out how to make it work in Firefox. All other browsers (incl. ios) seem to work... Can anybody help?
I was just coming in to say exactly the same thing!
Found the method:
song = new Audio(); etc
Fine everywhere except Firefox and iOS, similarly I am developing for iOS so ..
iOS works for me this way... at least my iphone with iOS6...
Curious, perhaps it's because i'm trying it as an iba widget or is that how you are using it?
I made a working test with 'Tumult Hype' which essentially uses the same code but allows you to drop sound objects on to the stage ..
