    Raid setup problems

    Cocovanna Level 1

I'm in the process of setting up a new pc, with (among others):

      - Asus P9X79

      - i7-3930K

      - 32GB 1600 G.Skill RipjawsZ

      - Asus GTX 660 Ti TOP

      - Samsung 830 256GB SSD

      - 4 Seagate Barracuda 2TB

Windows is installed, Production Premium 5.5 and Norton Internet Security. All fully updated. It runs flawlessly, although the disk performance should be improved a bit.

But when I try to change the SATA setting in the BIOS from ACHI to RAID, Windows refuses to boot. BSOD a short while after the Starting Windows animated logo appears (code 0000007B, no description whatsoever except a CHKDSK /F is recommended).

What is going wrong? Have I overlooked a simple step or do I have a more serious problem? I haven't even started selecting drives for the raid yet (planning to put 2 of the 4 Barracudas in a RAID0).

      Any ideas are appreciated.

(BTW, the benchmarks are reported as Catsplace-Gold in PPBM5).
