[scott] Oct 30, 2012 6:27 PM (in response to chuckdries)No automated method will ever yield excellent results. If you need only geometric shapes or perfect 90° angles you should be manually creating the art, not auto-tracing it.

JETalmage Oct 30, 2012 7:00 PM (in response to chuckdries)...make it a vector so I can scale it and use it in other contexts...
In your first example, if you had the "perfect" autotrace you describe, what scaleability advantage do you think you would gain? A square pixel is every bit as scaleable as a square vector path.
Take a look at this PDF. Zoom in. Tell me if you think it is a raster image or a vector path.

chuckdries Oct 30, 2012 10:27 PM (in response to JETalmage)with the pixelated firebird, I see your point. The trouble is getting past any sort of antialiasing, so making it a vector of a bunch of squares would solve my problem. Plus, I can import SVG paths into my 3D modeler, which is always a plus. With the circular logo, it was an easy trace, but still, I wish it were automatic.

chuckdries Oct 30, 2012 10:28 PM (in response to [scott])yes, but I'm exceedingly lazy, and it just seems like squares would be the easiest of all things to autotrace

Monika Gause Oct 31, 2012 1:48 AM (in response to chuckdries)You can easily trace squares using the mosaic function under "Object"
