1. Re: What am I doing that causes the message 'editing outside your session'?
Frank Stokes-Guinan Nov 2, 2012 10:48 AM (in response to Rowland Jones)A .idea file is saved any time you go back to the organizer view or whenever the app is suspended. The message you are referring to should only appear when the app tries to save the document but a new version of that same document has been sync’ed down from the Creative Cloud in the background (while you were editing the document). If that occurs, the app saves your current document with a new name in order to avoid overwriting the version that was sync’ed down.
If you believe you are seeing the message in scenarios other than what I just described, please let us know. Any details or patterns you see would help.
Thanks,
Frank

Rowland Jones Nov 3, 2012 9:51 AM (in response to Rowland Jones)Hi Frank,
This happened within the space of half an hour. How often do they sync? Maybe I should only enable sync when I've finished an idea? Would that avoid the problem?

3. Re: What am I doing that causes the message 'editing outside your session'?
Frank Stokes-Guinan Nov 5, 2012 8:42 PM (in response to Rowland Jones)If you have sync turned on and are connected to the network, then sync'ing occurs whenever changes are saved, either in the cloud or on your device. If you were only editing the document on your device in that half an hour, then you should not have seen that message. If that is the case, then any other details you can remember about your editing session would help us track down the problem and eliminate it.
To answer your second question, yes, you can disable sync any time and can enable it just when you're finished editing a document.
Hope that helps,
Frank

4. Re: What am I doing that causes the message 'editing outside your session'?
Tyranid Zeal Feb 22, 2013 8:22 AM (in response to Frank Stokes-Guinan)I am having the same issue. I think because my computer is on while I use my iPad the syncing occurs causing my iPad to make a duplicate. I like the safe guard feature. Maybe a prompt to ask if it should duplicate or would that get annoying if it happened to much. Not sure.
Must add I tried this app a little bit after it came out. I thought it was limited and silly on all levels.
Now I reinvestigated and I must say I cannot stop using it, it is is the best ever thing on my iPad. I love illustrator, I love vector, I love adobe ideas. It can only keep getting even better.
Thanks

red_annie Mar 14, 2013 6:13 AM (in response to Frank Stokes-Guinan)we've just started using Ideas on an Ipad 3 - same problems as described above. we're syncing with the cloud over wifi - but nobody is altering the file on the cloud, just on the ipad - and yet conflicts are happening continuously!
any suggestions?

Tyranid Zeal Mar 14, 2013 7:44 PM (in response to red_annie)I'm having the same issue. I think it could be my poor home network. but it
should promo me to continue syncing or some better solution. I tend to get
several copies of one file as I work on it. Also when cleaning I sometime
delete the wrong one. Happened a couple times. This issue needs to get
addressed by adobe quick. And I must say I do love Adobe Ideas and most of
its great features keep innovation and keep making it better. Adobe you
have the power. Please make it happen. I am on an iPad 4, 64 gig. Sorry I
could not help you adrienne.

7. Re: What am I doing that causes the message 'editing outside your session'?
Frank Stokes-Guinan Mar 14, 2013 9:53 PM (in response to Tyranid Zeal)Thanks for all the info. It's clear this isn't an isolated incident, and we have been able to reproduce this issue in-house as well. The problem seems to be triggered by multiple saves to a document during synchronizing. Sometimes, the synchronization believes it is downloading a version of the file that it just uploaded, so if you quickly make an edit to the same file and trigger a save (either by hitting the home button or going back to the organizer) before the synchronization completes, then a conflict is mistakenly identified. The issue doesn't occur all the time and is dependent on the timing of certain operations.
To avoid the issue, a workaround is to turn off synchronization while editing documents. Then, when finished editing, go back to the organizer and turn on synchronization and let it complete before editing more documents.
Hope that helps,
Frank

Brian of SummaeStudios Aug 21, 2014 10:36 PM (in response to Frank Stokes-Guinan)Hi,
Using Ideas tonight, 08-22-2014, and having the same issue in the last 45 minutes or so as was originally posted back in 2012. Have 5 'conflict versions' of an image I've been working on just tonight, in that 45 minutes.
I'm wondering now that I've read this thread why exactly this has not been addressed or fixed in almost two years?

10. Re: What am I doing that causes the message 'editing outside your session'?
Rowland Jones Nov 9, 2014 2:19 AM (in response to Brian of SummaeStudios)Hi,
I've had this problem, too!
I'm not a techie' but my conclusion is this. When you are working on the images, if you have sync switched on, this will be updating the Cloud, so that when you save the image at the 'end' of the session some of that data you have added/modified is already saved on the cloud; some of it isn't it: so it doesn't know what to do.
Just an idea.

11. Re: What am I doing that causes the message 'editing outside your session'?
Brian of SummaeStudios Nov 9, 2014 7:26 PM (in response to Rowland Jones)Hi Again,
I guess my point is, in the the two years during which they updated largely the entirety of their desktop Creative suite multiple times and created at least a dozen brand new mobile apps, they could have managed to fix this, or at least communicated what is happening with it. I'm guessing at this point nothing is happening with it, which is a shame. I love Ideas, but this is making it very frustrating to use. The last staff update was a workaround posted over a year and a half ago.
