    Problems with memory hogging/crashing

    ELK2010

Using InDesign CS5, I'm having an issue with the application hogging disk space on my system.  Here's what happens...

Several layout files open at once, happily working away doing what I do. Preflighting is turned off for all documents; using typical-quality-view display performance; and no auto spelling correct or anything else that comonly hogs resources.

After a while the application starts running VERY slow, sometimes several minutes to just move an object on a page.

      Then, inevitably, the application crashes.

When the application finally stops running, the available disk space on my computer increases by anywhere from 3 to 15 GB -- yes, GIGABYTES.

Please, anyone have a solution to this problem?
