Moving this discussion to the InDesign forum.
Jeff, where was this moved from? It does not seem to be an InDesign specific question...
Moved this from the Download, Installation, and Setting up forum. My assumption at this point is that the OP has some type of inquiry regarding transferring plug-ins for InDesign.
Can you tellus what happens when you try to download and install? What operating system are you using, and what browser?
I am using Windows 7 Starter. Actually, I only need the Id part of the
InDesign package, for I am only trying to open one IMM (?) fille for
editing. As you can see, I am not very proficient in this stuff. Most of
the CS stuff has downloaded, but the Id part will not. I think I have
enough space and memory, but the Adobe Downloader cannot seem to get it. I
have a feeling that I need some plug-in which did not successfully download
during the initial download, for there was a message that some elements
were not successfully downloaded.
Many thanks for your help.
I hope you don't really mean .imm for the extension -- that's and incredimail email file and won't open in ID. Files you can open in ID include .indd, .indt, .indb, .idml, .inx and .indl (not all of which represent documents).
I think, though, that your problem may be the Windows 7 Starter, though I don't honestly know why that would prevent the download. I'm pretty sure though, that even if you are able to get the download to complete you won't get the program to install on the Starter version.
If all you need is InDesign, or one or two of the other programs, and you don't intend to make a purchase, you should probably try downloading the individual trials, but if that's what you are doing now you might want to try downloading a suite package instead -- you can choose which components to try to install (see my concern about Windows 7 Starter above). Since your problem is with the Adobe Dowload Manager (and it give lots of users trouble), yiou miught want to try the direct download liinks at http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cs6-direct-download-links.html. Be sure you read and follow the directions under Note: Very Important Instructions on that page. If you don't follow them exactly the download will not work.
Yes, sorry, I meant INDD file. I'll try to download ID alone. Many thanks.
The download has stalled and is now saying it will take 24 hours. I give up.
Did you try the link I posted?
Yes, I went to that link and followed your instructions. I opened the Adobe
Installer and signed in. I selected ID files 1 and 2 for Windows. File 1
downloaded quickly; file 2 stalled quickly.
it's a big file. Could be your internet connection.
Yes, it's undoubtedly my internet connection. I' ll try to find someone who
already has the program.
Many thanks, Steven H.
