    Copying layer to another project

    kairosmatt Community Member

I have a text/logo with an alpha setup in a Photoshop file and I need copy it to other photos so the text/logo is on top of the photo. I can drag the layer to the second photo no problem. But when I go to reposition it it moves only within its own little box, so that it ends up croping itself.

In other words, I can move the text/logo, but if I go outsie the original dimensions it crops. How can I reposition the entire layer to anywhere in the second photo?

      Thanks!

Not certain what you mean by "an alpha setup" but it does sound like you have a layer mask on that layer, (what you describe as 'its own little box')...and it isn't "linked" to the layer.

IF I'm correct about the layer mask, look for a small link (chain) symbol between the layer and layer mask thumbnails in the layers panel. The behavior you describe would be a symptom of the link being in a broken state. Click that link symbol to un-break the link. Now you should be able to move and transform  the layer content as desired, and the layer mask will respond with it.

That was it exactly! Thank you so much,
