    Javascript dropdown display

    ng2
      I'm working on a Web site that uses one of the Fireworks javascript dropdown menus, an earlier version - created in 2000. I didn't put it there, wouldn't use it again and intend to replace it. However, it's a large site and I don't have time to change it right now. The pop-up menu items aren't displaying correctly: in IE, they dropdown is accurately placed, but is a little "askew." In firefox, the dropdown items appear in the upper left corner all squished together. Aack. I don't know Dreamweaver very well, or javascript (I'm a php coder), and don't have a copy of Fireworks. This must be a common bug. Can you help?

      These javascript scripts are in the <head> section just before the style sheets:
      <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="/inc/primary_nav.js"></script>
      <script language="JavaScript1.2" type="text/javascript" src="/inc/fw_menu.js"></script>

      This is immediately after the opening <body> tag:
      <script language="JavaScript1.2" type="text/javascript"><!--
      fwLoadMenus();
      //--></script>

      Then the call for the topnav bar is in the body of the document:
      <?php include($GLOBALS['path-to-root'].'inc/topnav.inc'); ?>

      I've read most the posts on this forum about dropdowns, and other info available on the Internet without finding the correct answer to this issue. I'm hoping someone here will help since the menu was originally created in Fireworks. Many thanks,

          It woud not be possible to diagnose the problem without seeing that page.
          Can you post a link?

            Ah, but that exact page is on my development server, not yet posted for the public. One of the problems (dropdown slightly askew) can be viewed on this page: http://www.pccweeklyad.com/inserts/0607/05

            I figured out at least some of the problem - my DOCTYPE. I'm installing WordPress and want to wrap the skin of our site around the blog which includes the javascript dropdown. The DOCTYPE FOR Wordpress is this:

            <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" " http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
            <html xmlns=" http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

            while the code on our site with the dropdown is this:
            <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
            <html>

            When I put use the HTML 4.0 Transitional doctype, the menu displays fine.
            Any chance there's a trick or workaround for the menu, so I could use the first doctype above?
            Thanks
