Can Premiere cs6 do Japanese titles?

    P-Zeus

I'm thinking about getting cs6 to use as our editing software for some educational videos for Japanese students of English. We need to be able to create Japanese subtitles for several parts of the videos; does Premiere cs6 handle Japanese characters? (hiragana, katakana & kanji?)

I realize that there is also a version of the software in Japanese, but my reading of the language isn't good enough to work smoothly in an all-Japanese program.

      Any help is appreciated!

You should have no issues creating Lower-Third Titles with most Asian fonts, but the exact font will be important. Titler (the Title creator sub-app. in PrPro) is very sensitive to poorly-written fonts. You might need to test the specific Asian fonts, that you have, to make sure that they are properly written.

Every Asian font issue that I have worked troubleshooting, has boiled down to the specific font. When one, that was poorly-written was replaced by a very similar font from a major foundry, the issues disappeared.

          Good luck,

            Dear Bill,

            Thank you for your reply!

I have more questions though (and I couldn't figure out how to reply to your reply on the forum!!!)

First, I don't know the term "Lower-Third"; does this just refer to small titles like we'd use for subtitles?

Also, I've only ever used an old Ulead program and an older version of Premiere, but I never touched the titler in Premiere. But in Ulead, there was a library of different fonts already available within the program. Is Premiere different? Do I have to import the fonts/writing from somewhere else? For example, if I write some text in MS Word, do I then import that into Premiere as a title?
