It sounds like a bad install.
Uninstall InDesign and reinstall. (Or if you're using the Creative Suite, uninstall and reinstall that.)
This could happen if you've used Migration Assistant to move from another computer (it happened to me and I had to reinstall).
Thanks for responding. Neither reinstalls helped. I tried the full CS6 uninstall/reinstall last and it now crashes on opening. The crash presents the Problem Report message with Details automatically on the crash this time.
Can you post the crash report on Pastebin.com and put a link to it here, please?
Thanks for replying Peter. I ended up resetting the preferences of InDesign (cmd + opt + ctrl +shift while opening) and that solved the problem. Funny, I found it through another forum you commented on. http://forums.adobe.com/message/4654417
