If the embedded movie is spread across a timeline, then you can take an instance of the Slider component from the library and use it to change the frames.  If you look it up in the help documentation you can read about its various properties and events that you can use to put it to work for you.  You can also search Google for tutorials using terms like "AS3 Slider tutorial" or for a custom slider using terms like "AS3 custom slider"
