I'm putting together pages for our association'ss member directory. Each member's info is being data merged into the InDesign document from a .csv file. There are occasions, when viewing the resulting page in Preview mode, that I need to change the text's formatting (size, italics or hard returns). With my fresh install of CS6, when I click on the data merged field, that entire field's text is selected and no modifications are possible.
I've enabled this a number of times over the years in older version, but I've forgotten how to make it possible to edit the merged-in text. Any help would be appreciated!
As far as I know this has never been possible (but I'd love to find out I'm wrong).
A furhter complication is that there is a bug in the preview that showed up in CS5 that shows things correctly in preview, but merges incorrectly if you then merge. It's far safer to merge without previewing.
Thanks, Peter - I'm absolutely sure that this is possible, I do it this project at least once a year (which makes it more maddening when I can't find that checkbox/option) Our many members have such wildly disparate information for fields like Health Center Name, that I've had to do a lot of text massaging each time to make the final product look more uniform.
There's a script or two I've seen that you can run on the finished merge that will fit the text...
