    Keylight Issues

    Krunska Level 1

      Greetings to all,

I was doing some exercises with Keylight and noticed that when selecting the effecting, the eye dropper is not working. I have to select a colour and then place the eye dropper in order for it to work. The screen then begins to flicker when i put my eye dropper over the selected area that I want to mask.

Please check this link to help you better understand my problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCW2ompAkbw&feature=youtube_gdata

I look forward to your reply.

      Alex

              Hi,

I experienced something very similar a while back, when still using my MAC. I was able to get it to work (and this is not a solution, merely a frustrating way of getting it to work) by franticly double clicking on the eye dropper - it eventually selects and you can continue to use keylight as usual. I do not know what caused it, and it did not happen every time I used the effect. Also, since moving over to my new PC and installation of After Effects, the issue has not returned.

              Good luck.

              Pierre

(I assume the background starts to "Flicker" because it is updating live - the colour you are hovering over on the palette is being keyed out as you move the pointer around)

I'm not 100% convinced that mp4 video works each and every time in AE 11, despite marketing literature that may lead one to believe the contrary.

Try transcoding the original footage clip to Quicktime's PNG codec and see if it helps.

                  Hi Pierre.

I am definitely not going back to PC. I don't know how you could go back to PC after working with MAC

You're right in regards to the double clicking.. it works.

I will keep working with the keying as it is for now until there is an update.

Thanks for getting back to me.. appreciated.

                    Hi,

Glad to be of assistance - the rest of the guys here have helped me out so many times, it feels great to be able to give a reply that works in a manner of speaking of course!)

Try not to wear out the mouse buttons while keying so long! I admit that certain tasks were easier on the MAC, and there were fewer glitches as such - but the price here in good 'ol South Africa made the decision easy. A pc, twice as mpowerful, costs less than half the price of a MAC here - and we get no support. As per the MAC support, the S.A. app store does not have all the apps, even the OS updates are not available on the S.A. app store - I needed to create an American account.

                    Anyway, each to their own....

Good luck, and keep checking back to the forums!

                    Pierre

It's just a computer.  Besides, if you get married to a Mac, you're taking it as an article of faith that Apple Computer of Cupertino, California will continue to manufacture desktop computers capable of undertaking professional video and effects production.

Look three to five years into the future and tell me what you see....

                        True Dave,

I have been a computer IT specialist on desktop and servers my entire adult life - only moved from IT to film March this year, and take it from me - in three years time - all technology changes!

It is best to keep an open mind, and if an individual has a favoured platform - very little will persuade them to change, as both have just as many good and bad points (if you look hard enough).

                        cheers

                        Pierre

You should know I used to be a 100% Mac guy, Pierre.

I'm now more agnostic in light of Apple's bonehead moves over the past year or two.

Pierre and Dave - have no intention to marry the mac    And yes.. it is just a computer.. but i am finding my workflow is more stable and quicker since switching. I am enjoying the mac system. There are certain things on the PC that I miss.. but i can live without them for the moment.

To everyone that helped with the aftereffects issue.. really appreciated.

Enjoy life and hopefully will be able to give more input from my experiences in the future.
