Motion Track does this automatically -- but you can also keyframe the motion of an object manually to precisely follow an object or person.
I had a look at keyframing and that's exactly what I need.
I could not have motion tracking to work. Anyway, in addition, I understood this feature has been remove from latest PRE release... because it was not that stable. So I guess it was not only me ;-)
Thank you for you quick reply.

Keyframing is how I do, what you describe. Steve Grisetti has a very good series, Basic Keyframing, that is a great place to start: http://www.muvipix.com/products.php?searchphrase=Keyframing&btn.x=17&btn.y=6
Also remember, besides Keyframing the Fixed Effects>Motion>Position (Pan), and Motion>Scale (Zoom), one can also Keyframe many other Fixed Effects, such as Opacity and Volume (if there is Audio), plus many added Effects, like Gaussian Blur, for some animated effects.
