I recorded some interview footage that had required the use of two mics. On the camera, I set the audio ch1 to the mic set in input1, and ch2 to input2. I expected that, when importing the clips into my project, they would appear as two separate audio tracks, each partaining to the individual mics. My hope was to quiet mic1/audiotrk1 when mic2/audiotrk2 was in use, visa versa. Was there a setting I failed to check in the camera, or is there a way to "split" the single audio track as the two channels that they were? Thanks.
In the Pref under audio you will find the Default Audio Tracks.
Set Mono to Use file.
There are several ways to break out the channels for editing, but my preference is to Copy/Paste the audio clip to duplicate on timeline, then apply "Fill Left" filter to one, and "Fill Right" to the other. Then you have two independent audio clips, each filling both stereo channels for output and you can adjust volume of each as needed.
Alternately, just use the single audio track, and put a Razor cut in it whenever you want to switch from Mic 1 to Mic 2, and apply Fill Left or Fill Right depending which mic you want to hear. Of course, drop an Audio Crossfade effect at the cut to avoid pops.
There are other methods, but this is what works for me
