    .htm vs. .html

    TCarp Level 1
I've been merrily running along creating files that have the suffix .htm when I created one from a dwt and saw that DW wanted to save it with the suffix .html. Because I was ultimately replacing a file and didn't want to have to update the links, I forced the suffix to .htm. Except for the links, does it matter?

          No.

No, just be consistent in your naming.
Avoid creating, say, myfile.htm and myfile.html in the same directory and
confusing yourself as I have in the past.

You can set the default in DW Preferences:
Edit > Preferences > New Document > Default Extension

              Hi John Waller,
I just saw your reply in regards to saving as .htm/.html on the Dreamweaver Forum.

I can't preset my preferences to save as .html since the option is grayed out in the prefs. Any idea on how to set this – it's so annoying to have to manually change .htm to .html ever time a save a new doc.

              Thanks for your help,
              Hanna

The "Default extension" box is only editable when the "Default document"
(the box above it) is specified as HTML.

In DMX2004 (and DMX, I believe) it's not editable at all. You actually have
to open the referenced file (in the help link on the page) and edit it.
