    Navigation Tabs HELP!!

    fwnovice
Hi, I'm a novice with fireworks but after research I've found this is the best tool to accomplish what I want. I've been to the following sites and they both are great tutorials, however I'm still a bit stumped.

      http://www.playingwithfire.com/tool_tips/tabs.html

At the end of that tutorial it shows you a content area. How do I get the the content in that area. Also it never explains how to add the text to the tabs it just shows tab a, tab b, tab c on the last image. Also, it doesn't show how to link the tabs, and how when you click on one tab the others go to the back.

Please I would appreciate any help with this.

You type it over the image.

You select the text tool from the Tools panel, click on the of the tabs,
          and then type.

Sure it does. That's what the whole song and dance about the Swap Image
          behaviors is about. :-)

            Hi Linda,

Thanks for the reply. So I'm basically creating the entire page in fireworks? There's no way to click the tab link and the content show up in the specific content area. I wanted to have a section for the folder look and still have other content on the same page sort of like www.bellsouth.com then I wanted a frame site with another nav menu on the left frame. How do I get the page to load (when the side menu is clicked) and keep the tabbed menu in tack while displaying the content for the left menu in the content area under the tabs?

The tab element in the tutorial is not meant for building an entire
page. It's just for a small element that's part of a larger HTML page.
This tutorial is the one to use to create tab images to use for
              navigating an entire site.

What it doesn't do is tell you how to add the behaviors to them that
enable them to be used as a nav element. That has to be done in
              Dreamweaver rather than Fireworks.

Eeiikkk!! Run away! Run away! Don't do frames. :-)

                Hi again,

I went to that site. Do I make the rectangle attached to the tabs bigger and manually add the content for each tab on each frame? Do you have any suggestions on how to manipulate the side menu?

                Thanks again

Again, if you are creating whole Web pages you want to use a tabbed
navigation for, you cannot do it in Fireworks. Create the tab images in
Fireworks, but build the pages in Dreamweaver. To use the tab images in
Dreamweaver, simply put them in the top rows of the content tables of
your pages. One way to make them interactive is to draw hotspots over
the tabs in Dreamweaver, adding the links to the other pages to the
                  hotspots.

ohhhhhh ok.....now I get it. So if I have have three tabs then I would create three different web pages and change the nav bar image for each tab? Do you know of any other program that I can use to accomplish what I want? I don't really want the entire nav bar to change when a tab is clicked, I only want the content to change. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

                    Thanks again

For each page. Yup! Page 1 gets the row of tabs image with tab one in
the forward position. Page two gets row of tabs image with tab 2 in the
forward position. Page three gets the row of tabs image with tab 3 in
the forward position. Easy that way, isn't it. :-)
