Are you sure the language assigned to those words is English in your text? Are they spelled correctly or incorrectly, and if incorrect, what is the spelling?
I suppose it's remotely possible that you're using one of those old Postscript "expert" fonts where the f-i ligature glyph was in a separate font. I still see these fonts every once in a while. If you use the text selection tool and try to grab just the f or just the i, and can't, then that is probably what is going on. Alternately, look at those words in the Story Editor (Control + Y in Windows); that would give you the same information.
No, ligatures and stuff like that were one of the things I checked. Regular Times font is used, BUT…
The original text seemed to be scanned and wrongly converted to ligatures or exported from a text file that did use ligature'd font.
I guess it was exported, since the line breaks are also lost so there are MANY joined words (missing space)
Good guess Peter! Thanks.
I think you meant good guess Joel, but it doesn't actually sound like what he said to me.
