How to make the effect like the pic of the man on the left hand side by writting acrionscript?
Could you give me some hints to do that? or any related tutorials for that?

      Many thanks!!!

if you have in mind the grid that moves down and reveal image than that's
just simple masking. Basically a bit of grid follow by solid shape. The grid
outline has to be converted to fills as flash can't use outlines in a mask layer.
Than after that grid some solid rectangular shape so first you see bits of the image
          following full image.
Make it into a graphic symbol or movie clip, place on top of the photo, convert the
grid layer into mask and motion tween it. Pretty much it.

Another way is to make small shape expending itself to larger using shape tween, place
it in movie clip and than use frame by frame animation. With each frame more square
movie clips till covering entire image. It has to spread across multiple layer.
Something similar to what I posted few days ago http://flashfugitive.com/stuff/slide_05a.swf
          d/l http://flashfugitive.com/stuff/slide_05a.zip
Just to give you general idea.

Masking is very basic but if use creatively, you can come with some really cool
effects. Lots of people underestimate its abilities and try to over kill with action script
and hundreds of lines of code.

Play around, you should be able to figure it out.

            first, thanks for your help!

as you said, i wonder whether it would be quite a big trouble if i need to make that photo effect for a image with 10x10 sliced small pieces ? and if i need to replace the photo by another one but keeping the same photo effect, i will need to slice the big photo into 10x10 pieces again...i'm afraid it would be quite time-consuming!~
so, i wonder whether there any ways to do that by the help of ActionScript so as to make it more flexible in terms of editing~

p.s. Was the Flash file you provided established by Flash 8 because I can't open it (I'm using Flash MX 2004 pro.)?

            Sincerely thanks for your help!

The slice would be shape tween above the photo and the photo itself could be
within movie clip and changed with each time the effect run.
Could it be action scripted ? yes it could but it would be over kill to user drawing
API to create that. Than real pain in buttock to make any adjustments.
The flash player is still very fragile and such things can be CPU consuming.

I need to do something now but later on will try to fix an example and this time
will down save it to flash mx 2004 :)

Glad to hear your reply ! and I understand what you'd point out~
But, i still have some worries in my mind if i don't use the Action Script to do that job...

As the way you mentioned that making a movie clip containing different photos in seperate frames, which could solve the problem to some extent, but not completely..I think~
It is because ...what if i would like to change the existing photo to another one with different size, i mean the dimension but not he file size, then i'll need to alter, one by one and in a mechanical way, the shape size of those symbols representing the masks above the photo so that we use the same no. of slices(masks) to cover the entire photo beneath....so here if we write actionscript to do it, it should be easier and more flexible.

Regarding to the CPU consumption, hmm, actually I didn't pay any attention to it before and never notice it...and I always thought that using ActionScript would be a less CPU/time-consuming way to do a Flash project....:)

ps:my English is not really good, hope you can get what I meant:)

Thanks for your attention to my post again!
