Ya know, I am having the same problem with both CS5 and CS6 in photoshop. Here is what it looks like:
In both instances I have opened the file and just for a split second I can see my file on the workspace, then it looks like that. I figure this is a common problem because it is happening to both programs and so there has got to be a common issue to it. I don't know what it is but.....
ASUS M5A97 MoBo
XFX 6870 w/2gb DRAM
64BG Patriot Pyro SSD
2TB WD 7200rpm HD
Also, here is my system info through photoshop:

This issue was actually fixed.
I ended up fixing it by going into the menu as follows: Edit => Preferences => General. Then in the window that pops up I clicked on Performance. In that box there is a check box that says "Graphics processor settings". I unclicked the check box in that area and hit apply/ok. I then opened a file and everything worked again.
This means either your video card or driver is not up to the task. Try updating the drive from the GPU website.
It will work as you have it but you miss out on quite a few bells and whistles.
actually, the drivers are all up to date, and I am sure that an ATi 6870 with 1GB DRAM on it can handle the proram. It was working fine and then all of a sudden it stopped working one day.
It's still a driver bug.
Did you update from the ATI website, or Microsoft (a mistake)?
The 12.8 Catalyst drivers are stable, and the 13.1 beta.
Thank you so much !!
