1. Re: Is it possible to convert text captions to Smart Shapes?
Lilybiri Dec 11, 2012 2:10 PM (in response to shawninvancouver)Hello Shawn,
I don't believe an automatic switch will be possible, because smart shapes are totally different objects. Personally I replace text captions whenever possible by shapes, used as text containers. You can indicate in the Preferences for recording simulations to do that, but since you already have created the simulations, it has to be done manually. Hoping for you that someone has a bright idea, but I do not see one immediately. I would export the text to Word, save that without formatting and copy/paste the necessary text into inserted shapes.

As always you are awesome! :-)

I understand because there are a huge variety of shapes in either format. But I suspect that it should be easy to convert a text caption from any style to one specified smart shape style.
Actually, I am asking before the simulations get started. So nothing has been done yet. I am unsure what you are suggesting I should do in the preferences under Cp 5.5. Are you suggesting that there is a way to convert 'some format' of text callouts, in a Cp5.5 demonstration simulation, to Smart Shapes in Cp6?

For anyone else in this situation, it would be handy to have a solution (rather than painstakingly convert each manually).
I am wondering if this might be a relatively easy search/replace within one of the xml files within the CPTx file. I'm going to look at this tonight.
Thanks for your assist.

3. Re: Is it possible to convert text captions to Smart Shapes?
Lilybiri Dec 12, 2012 6:00 AM (in response to shawninvancouver)Only in Captivate 6 you can replace by default all text captions that are generated during an Automatic capture by a smart shape (and define its style). Since 5.5 didn't have smart shapes, only some drawing objects, it is not possible in that version.

seanbernardino Sep 24, 2013 8:59 AM (in response to Lilybiri)Hi Lily,
How can one do this? I'm using Captivate 6 and would like to replace all text captions generated during an automatic capture by a brown smartshape box.
Thanks,
Sean

5. Re: Is it possible to convert text captions to Smart Shapes?
Lilybiri Sep 24, 2013 9:07 AM (in response to seanbernardino)You have to change preferences before capture, there is an option in Recording, Modes 'Use Smart Shapes instead of Captions'.

6. Re: Is it possible to convert text captions to Smart Shapes?
seanbernardino Sep 24, 2013 9:14 AM (in response to Lilybiri)Thanks Lily. But there's no way to do this automatically once the screens have already been captured, right? I have to select each caption and replace it with the style that I want.

7. Re: Is it possible to convert text captions to Smart Shapes?
Lilybiri Sep 24, 2013 9:18 AM (in response to seanbernardino)Since it is a totally different object, I'm afraid that this will not be possible after capture. You can apply a different style in a rather quick way, but it has to be the same type of object.

8. Re: Is it possible to convert text captions to Smart Shapes?
seanbernardino Sep 25, 2013 8:34 AM (in response to Lilybiri)Hi Lilybiri,
Thanks for all the help with this. Follow up question on converting captions to Smartshapes. Thanks to your help, I can now set captions to be Smartshapes which can be styled the way I want. Can I do the same thing for the Assessment and Training mode? I tried setting the options but the recorded output still has the red caption object and yellow caption object for incorrect and hint captions -- which I was hoping would be a smartshape that I could format just like i did with text captions in demo mode.
Thanks,
Sean
