1. Re: Creative Cloud Illustrator without Java?
markerline Dec 15, 2012 7:36 PM (in response to bingiebongo)If you're on a Mac you may already have Java Runtime installed, just not the latest version required by many of Adobe's Products.

2. Re: Creative Cloud Illustrator without Java?
bingiebongo Dec 15, 2012 7:44 PM (in response to markerline)No, I'm running Creative Cloud on a brand new MacBook Air (500 Gig hard drive, 8 Gigs RAM). They don't come with Java and I don't want it on there either. I'm just surprised Illustrator would need it, for what? PhotoShop, the Edge line of products and Fireworks all run fine without Java.

Read this document and then open a terminal window and try to run the javac command

4. Re: Creative Cloud Illustrator without Java?
bingiebongo Dec 15, 2012 8:01 PM (in response to markerline)For the last year Apple has been shipping all their Macs without Java or Flash installed. That's how they come.
So, here's what I got in my terminal:
rbiggs: javac
No Java runtime present, requesting install.
By the way, I'm a developer, so I now what Java is and where it would be if it were installed. It normally gets installed in ~/Library/Java. I don't have it. I don't want it. I'm just surprised Illustrator needs it. Bad programming, bad. If they're coding Illustrator to run on top of Java, then it's going to really degrade its performance, and burn down the battery and take up CPU cycles. I don't want that.

ronb Jun 25, 2013 9:45 AM (in response to bingiebongo)This is an old thread now, but was wondering (since we are investigating moving from our existing maintenance licensing to the new subscription model) if there's any news on Adobe latest versions of their products, that is, do they STILL require java 6?
I believe this is ludicrous for a commercial developer (specifically of this size) to not only require a "runtime" environment whatsoever, but to require an old, VERY INSECURE, version of one!!!!
Hopefully someone can give me some good news for a change.

(in response to ronb)
- Download Java for Mac OS X 2013-002 from http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1572.
- Install the Java update using the downloaded .dmg file.
- When installation is complete, a Software Update dialog is displayed. The dialog asserts that you need the Java SE 6 Runtime to run Adobe Illustrator CS6.
- In the Software Update dialog, click Install.
- Launch Illustrator

So I guess that's yes?

9. Re: Creative Cloud Illustrator without Java?
Danny Michael Aug 12, 2013 1:31 PM (in response to ronb)You don't need Java installed to run Illustrator CS6. Just move FXGFileFormat.aip and FXGFileFormatUI.aip out of the plugins folder and it will run fine.

SyberKnight Jul 20, 2014 9:39 PM (in response to Danny Michael)could there be more to move?
i moved both "FXGFileFormat.aip and FXGFileFormatUI.aip" out as you said, but i still get the dialog...
- To open "Adobe Illustrator CS6.app," you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now? [Not Now][Install]
...when i try to launch AI.
i'm on a new Macbook Pro w/Mavericks and i'd REALLY like to NOT have to install Java, but Illustrator cs6 seems to be my only app i need that is requiring it.
i'm looking for a workaround - any other tips?
thanks.

gadgetpundit.com May 20, 2015 5:31 PM (in response to bingiebongo)Download the NEW version of Java from Java.com
Then run the following terminal commands separately. No fuss no muss.
sudo mkdir -p /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk
sudo mkdir -p /System/Library/Java/Support/Deploy.bundle
