1. Re: Using gradient with pantone requirements?
Wade_Zimmerman Dec 16, 2012 8:57 AM (in response to TCarp)This is an area tht can be tricky since there is to my knowledge no actual printed sample books of gradients made with pantone spot colors and that as the colors converge toward the center point they will mix but as a screened or tint combination at will not be as vibrant as they are on either end side of the gardient.
Here is what I believe the gradients will look like in AI and print on press you mighyt expect somethying different but it is I believe work out this way no matter what you try.

TCarp Dec 16, 2012 9:35 AM (in response to Wade_Zimmerman)Thanks Wade
As I suspected. I wonder how the pros do it? Actually, this is for a friend who's navigating his way through design and printing. He's doing the graphics for his own clothing line.
This whole area of understanding color from AI to the final product has been (and still is) a difficult learning curve.

And secondly i is simply a difficult learning curve for everyone.

4. Re: Using gradient with pantone requirements?
Steve Fairbairn Dec 16, 2012 4:38 PM (in response to TCarp)And here’s a conundrum for you.
Make a gradient in a spot colour that goes from solid to 0%.
Make another in a different colour that goes from 0% to solid.
Put one on top of the other and set the top one to Multiply (Transparency panel).
The result should be exactly the same as a gradient between the same two colours and yet it is not quite.
The method above gives duller results.
If anyone knows why I should be pleased to know.

Steve Fairbairn Dec 17, 2012 5:22 AM (in response to [scott])Right you iz.
Which brings us again to the eternal question of why the Overprint Preview isn’t default.

Because save for web can have definate color issues if overprint preview is on.
