Premiere Elements displays very little metadata from AVCHD video.
I'd recommend that, if you're going to work with a $4500 professional AVCHD camcorder, you consider using a professional editing program, like Premiere Pro CS6. It offers many more of the features you're looking for, including the much more advanced Adobe Bridge.
I agree with Steve on the metadata front. Now, for AVCHD material, be sure to Copy over the entire folder structure from your camera's card, and NOT just the AV files, themselves. There is metadata, that can be important, in those folders.
Some users find that things are "snappier," if they use a card reader to do those Copies, than the USB 2.0 connection.
