1. Re: "Locating Media" taking AGES... can't open project (CS6)
PmPhotographic Dec 16, 2012 2:57 PM (in response to jackdelamare)Is it possibly that the PC is looking for the original file (Im assuming it was originally located on the PCs hard disk before being copied to the external drive), and hence cant find it? You could try the 'link media' command to tell the program on the desktop where the physical file is now located

jackdelamare Dec 16, 2012 2:58 PM (in response to PmPhotographic)As in, the project file, or the source files (videos/audio etc)? Because when it originally asked to find the media, I selected the media from the external and it was happy with it.

PmPhotographic Dec 16, 2012 3:23 PM (in response to jackdelamare)Yes, I was thinking of the source material, sounds like you have already done as I was suggesting
Can you access the source material through another program, eg Media Player?
Afraid Im off to bed now though, will check tomorrow

4. Re: "Locating Media" taking AGES... can't open project (CS6)
jackdelamare Dec 16, 2012 3:24 PM (in response to PmPhotographic)Yeah, it plays fine.
I just pressed cancel, ended Premiere Pro's process in the task manager, and then re-opened it. It began to locate the media again and got a quarter of the way through and then asked me to find a file. It was one of the "rendered - lotsofnumbers" files. I located it, it said there was a problem with the audio/video and couldn't open it, and then I clicked "skip all" to the rest, it continued to locate the media but then a Windows dialogue box opened saying my system memory was low and the program closed. Basically the same as last time...

JSS1138 Dec 16, 2012 7:57 PM (in response to jackdelamare)It sounds like neither system is up to the task of working with this project. Given their specs, I'm not all that surprised.

6. Re: "Locating Media" taking AGES... can't open project (CS6)
jackdelamare Dec 16, 2012 11:29 PM (in response to JSS1138)But then why would my laptop happily open the project and run it fine? My desktop should be able to open it, given that it has better specs.
I have nothing better to work with at this point...
Last night I made sure the drive letter for my external was the same on my desktop as it is on my laptop and surprisingly it opened the project fine and began to load the files at the bottom inside the edit like it does normally every start-up. So I finally got into it on my desktop but then it froze when I cancelled the auto-save.
