Each symbol has its own timeline that you can play when you want. Just check off autoplay in the symbols.
hi there and thanks for the reply.
what i meant is: i cannot drag my symbol to - lets say - 2:00 on the main timeline and make it appear and run from there. that is possible with the other assets (text, pics) but not for symbols?
Symbol instances have location parameters just like any other element on the stage. In order to get your symbol to show up in a particular location, you need to either drag your symbol onto the stage and place it there. It sounds like what you're doing is using code to instantiate your symbol, which means that it defaults to the upper left hand corner of the Stage. If you are creating your symbol via code, you will need to define a location for it based off of CSS properties using the jQuery handle. So your code might look something like this:
var newSymInstance = sym.createChildSymbol("mySym");
newSymInstance.getSymbolElement().css("left", 250); // changes the x value
newSymInstance.getSymbolElement().css("top", 250); // changes the y value
Hope that helps!
The way to do this without writing any code is using display Off keyframe at time zero, turning off autoplay on the symbol definition (both as resdesign mentions), and then adding a Play playback action to the symbol on the main timeline at 2:00 as well as a display On keyframe.
Once that is done, the symbol will not be displayed or play back until 2:00 into the timeline.
