i'd do it in photoshop. or lightroom if you have it.
for photoshop, take a look at this:
(about a third through the video, he explains how to watermark with only the file name) [type in a space at text and check "Append File Name"]
this action can easily be saved and automated aswell.

After automating your folder full of 800 images to a new folder, you can make your footage offline in premiere and relink with those from the folder containing your filename-watermarked jpegs.
should be definately faster than adding 800 titles...

since i doubt that there's a solution within Premiere, you might get more qualified info in the photoshop forums.
as far as premiere goes:
when your images are properly processed, in PR make them all offline and relink with the processed images. export. cone.
