Are you sure this is an HDV camcorder? According to these specs, it's a miniDV.
Have you tried installing the legacy driver, per the FAQs to the right of this forum?
Steve, yes, its the miniDV camcorder you identified.
I haven't tried installing the legacy driver, but will attempt to do so and let you know what happens.
I installed the legacy driver and rebooted my PC.
I reconnected the camcorder to the PC with the firewire, opened up PE 11, and made another effort to import video. Result was that I received the same "does not recognize device" message.
Any other thoughts at this point?
You need to select DV Camcorder instead of hdv camcorder.
There are 2 options for capture on my PREL11 : HDV or DV, to check.
On PREL9 I used previously, I captured from 2 camcorders (my old JVC DV and my
SONY HDV HC9). Unfortunately, my new laptop Win7 has no firewire, so I capture on my Mac
and PREL11 has no problem to recognize my HDV cam. I will check on DV next week.
As a workaround, maybe you can capture your clips with Movie Maker then import them from files
to edit your film.
And definitely try the WinDV program (free) that John T. recommended above. That will tell us if the problem is with Premiere Elements or if there's a problem interfacing with your camcorder.
This solved the problem. I was thereafter able to import the data from the miniDV tape on my camcorder.
Thanks very much.
