Thing about Premiere, is that if you already have your footage already neatly sorted out, which is kind of a habit for me already coming from FCP, the media management is relatively fine and dandy. However, if you want to copy footage from one drive to the next, you can use Project Manager to consolidate rushes.
To do this, dump the footage into a sequence, then go to Project>Project Manager, check only that sequence, and check "collect files and copy to new location". Then make those files in your original project offline, then re-link to the footage in the new location.
Thanks that is a good idea, I think it would be a cool feature where you could choose when you import a file for media browser that the file is transfered to the folder. Sort of a mix of avid, fcp and premiere just as an option
A copy to media drive on import option would be nice. Also "background importing" when that happens. Don't like how Avid clogs up the entire NLE just to wait for one clip to be transcoded to the media drive.
Make a feature request. Add some numbers to that list.
I know I could go into the finder and copy the files to the drive
That is the best method. I advise doing just that.
Always organize your media before importing into PP.
