You did not mention if you have a single catalog to manage the photo files on your two external drives ? Or do you use several catalogs ?
Have you another external (or internal) drive where you could backup your catalogs ? With such an important library I suppose you have backups.
Supposing you have a single catalog for all the photos on both of your external drive, the safer and simpler way would be to create a backup on an external media and restore it on custom location to the new hard drive. (It is not recommended to store the backup on the same destination drive for speed and safety reasons)
Thank you. MyCatalog folder has several subfolders, so, I’m assuming I have several, however, I don’t know what goes with what. My title said back up, I meant transfer or copy. I do have separate backups for my photos. I never realized the importance or reasoning for the catalog. How do you know which catalog is active with a particular ext HD?
If you have been using only Bridge, please ignore my previous post which has no meaning if you did not use the Organizer.
(You said your are concerned about catalogs, which would be the case if you 'imported' your photo files in the Organizer.)
Have you considered asking that question in the Photoshop forum where you'll find the most competent Bridge users ?
Thank you again. I have no problem with Bridge, it is the Organizer where I sometimes have problems importing photos. Particularly, when I want to view photos from the earliest 500GB port. HD. I can view the photos in Bridge, but they will not import in to the Organizer. It is this problem that I do not want to have when I copy everything into the larger HD. I greatly appreciate you bearing with me!
