Hello, I just got the new 27" iMac, installed 24GB Crucial RAM. It's got 3.4GHz Intel Core i7 processor.
And NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB....
So I just installed my After Effects and Premiere programs, opened up a project. Literally just tested a 3 second after effects composition and rendered it. It says it is using 18% of 24GB of RAM and it is taking over an hour. I even attempted changing the output setting to just a H.264 1080p 23.976. Same issue.
I am pretty new at this stuff, but I've got an 8GB Powerbook that would render this in less than a minute. Can you think of something I should check on? What could be causing this? Seems like something is very wrong here. I haven't even done anything to my settings, it's basically all out of the box (software and computer).
Thank you so much!
Scratch that.... it says 10 hours to render!!! What the heck?!! It's 3 seconds, just a tiny little project.
I just tested a 5 min long video render in Premiere to see if I could determine if it's an After Effects thing or computer issue. The premiere file rendered in less than 3 minutes.
We cannot know. You need to tell us what exactly is going on in your comp. The simple explanation would be that you have set your comp renderer to raytrace 3D and with that on, on systems that do not have a supported GPU even simple, conventional stuff renders for ever. Check this. For anything else we need much more info.
