As I'm typing in a text box, a short window pops up with Asian characters and two arrows at the end. It takes over and I cannot type in English any more.
In the text box, I get x's. I've checked the font and the paragraph style. I've tried clearing all character styles. I'm at a standstill.
How can I fix this? It's never happened before.
You probably turned on a Windows non-English keyboard without realizing it. You're using Windows, right? Probably a combol like right shift + ctrl which is "switch to next keyboard." It depends on which version of Windows you're using, but if you go to Control Panel -> Region and Language Options -> Change Keyboards you can probably uninstall any stray input methods, and the "Advanced Key Settings" lets you turn off the "Switch between input languages" key combo.
Joel. Thank you so much. That is exactly what happened. With your instructions I was able to get back to the right language and also remove the keyboard shortcut so it won't happen again.
