1. Re: PS CS6 Smartobject - Changing color space not working
c.pfaffenbichler Jan 15, 2013 11:04 PM (in response to Ola_1974.)Seems to work for me.
The container document naturally is not affected but the SO is converted.

Ola_1974. Jan 16, 2013 3:43 AM (in response to c.pfaffenbichler)Thank you for your reply.
Just checked now again. It is still not working for me. PS CS6 13.0.1.1, ACR 7.3.
Open a sRGB RAW file in ACR as smartobject into Photoshop. Do some editing. Click back into ACR, change color space to Adobe RGB, go back into Photoshop, file is still using sRGB color space!

3. Re: PS CS6 Smartobject - Changing color space not working
c.pfaffenbichler Jan 16, 2013 4:33 AM (in response to Ola_1974.)• Changing the content of a SO to another Color Space has naturally no effect on the containing document.
• Editing a Camera Raw SO has naturally no effect on the original, but separate RAW file outside of the Photoshop document because SOs are contained within their containing file and stored in cache when edited.

4. Re: PS CS6 Smartobject - Changing color space not working
Ola_1974. Jan 16, 2013 2:34 PM (in response to c.pfaffenbichler)I understand now that a copy of the original RAW file is made when working with SO.
Still, when checking what color space I am working in (in PS CS6), after changing from sRGB to aRGB, PS still tells me I am working in sRGB!!
So what I am asking, going back from a SO in PS, into ACR, to change the color space, does not work.
Is there a workaround for this?
Or is it something I still do not understand here?

c.pfaffenbichler Jan 16, 2013 11:07 PM (in response to Ola_1974.)So what I am asking, going back from a SO in PS, into ACR, to change the color space, does not work.
In my test the Raw SO’s Color Space can be changed and this is stored.
The containing document is a separeate document and would need to be converted to the profile if you want that.

Ola_1974. Jan 17, 2013 2:49 AM (in response to c.pfaffenbichler)pfaff,
how do you check that the changed color space is effective??
If I go under "Edit" and Color settings, assign profile or convert to profile, they all show that I am using sRGB, even if I go back and change to Adobe RGB in ACR.
If you have to change/assign it manually in PS, in addition to changing it in ACR, then how can we know everything is right/preserved?

7. Re: PS CS6 Smartobject - Changing color space not working
c.pfaffenbichler Jan 17, 2013 2:53 AM (in response to Ola_1974.)The raw SO’s Color Space is just that – the Color Space of the SO, the containing document can be in another Color Space.
So when I open, edit, close, reopen the SO and it still indicates the Space I changed it to I consider the change to have been stored.

Ola_1974. Jan 17, 2013 11:48 AM (in response to c.pfaffenbichler)I am starting to suspect my in depth knowledge on handling SO is insufficient, because I am not following your thinking. I probably have to do some more reading. Anyway, thanks for your input.

9. Re: PS CS6 Smartobject - Changing color space not working
Jeff Schewe Jan 17, 2013 12:06 PM (in response to Ola_1974.)The color space of your Photoshop document is seperate from the color space settings in your raw SO...changing the setting in the SO will not effect the PSD's color space. You would need to do a convert to profile from sRGB to Adobe RGB to change the document's color space so both would match.
