Noel Carboni Jan 21, 2013 1:48 PM (in response to queen.wild)Do they have equally new (or newer) versions of Photoshop as compared to yours?
If not, is it possible you've used a feature that their versions are incapable of understanding? Something like a layer stroke, or too-deep nesting of groups, or several other things that have been added to new versions.

queen.wild Jan 21, 2013 2:03 PM (in response to Noel Carboni)One of the people who tried to open it is using CS5 and the other is using PSE11 and I did think of this possibility. But I'm new to CS6 and I'm pretty sure I haven't used anything that I haven't used in PSE9 in the past. All of the layers have been rasterized except for drop shadows but I'm using purchased layer styles that I orifinally had installed in PSE9.

queen.wild Feb 13, 2013 8:16 AM (in response to queen.wild)Me again. I now know of one other person who has the same problem - running CS6 on a mac. The templates layered files open fine for her (and me) but when someone else tried to open them they got the same error message.
Anyone have any ideas about what's causing this? We are making a product to sell and it doesn't inspire a lot of confidence when our customers open up a file and get this message!

You did use data that the older version doesn't understand. That's why the message is there.
It is not an error message, just information and warning you that the document contained data that the older version cannot read.

queen.wild Feb 13, 2013 8:46 AM (in response to Chris Cox)What data did I use? I didn't do anything that I haven't done in previous versions.

I don't know - I don't have your document to examine.
It could be text layers, vector shapes, etc. Anything that contains data new to CS6 could generate that warning in previous versions.

Noel Carboni Feb 13, 2013 1:07 PM (in response to queen.wild)Would you be willing to post a file you're having trouble with online so others could look into it?
