Save text in TextArea as file?

    FlexCoder Level 1

I don't know if this is possible at all in Flex, but what I want is a "Save" button next to a TextArea, which will allow the user to save a file on his computer with the content of the text area.

I was thinking something like a standard "save file" dialog box with the local file system where you can choose where to save it.

      Is this possible? How?

The Flash player security sandbox does not allow you to access the local file system from Flex. In Flex 3.0 (currently in Beta) there is a desktop application runtime (called AIR) that allows Flex applications to run as desktop apps. Air will allow local file access.

If you want temporary persistence on the Client machine you can use SharedObjects. Otherwise any persistence must be on the server where
the flex application was served from.
