Created a business card with a Pantone Reflex Blue-to-white gradient background. Looks great on screen, but when printed, the gradient turns into purple-to-white. I export to PDF using standard SWOP conversions. If I export to PDF 'as-is', printer's RIP converts it to CYMK and I get the purple again. See linked image.
Is there anything I can do? I really don't want to go to a 2-color printer for this nuisance job.
Reflex Blue is pretty far out of the CMYK gamut, so the best you can do is spec a CMYK mix and cut down on magenta while keeping cyan at 100%.
Also cyan isn't in the RGB gamut so the display of bright blues with 100% cyan in the mix can be muted relative to the way they will print. If you can get a CMYK process guide, it would be better than using the Pantone solids swatch book.
CMYK process guide is out of the budget, though... will experiment w/your other suggestions.
