1. Re: Dreaweaver didn't ask me to update pages
Newsgroup_User Nov 19, 2007 9:06 PM (in response to Jack Attack)I find that this happens sometimes too. You might try editing your template
by inserting a space, then removing it, then right click on the tab and
click SaveAll. This doesn't always work though.
If anyone knows a real fix for this, I'd love to hear about it.

Newsgroup_User Nov 19, 2007 9:12 PM (in response to Jack Attack)Are the templates in a folder named exactly Templates that is in the root
level of the Local Site Folder?
And- they are not in some subfolder inside of the Templates folder?
What happens if you go to dw menu-->Modify-->Templates-->Update Pages ?
In the child pages of the template, does the html comment for the start of
the template contain the correct path to the .dwt file?
<!-- InstanceBegin template="/Templates/templatefilename.dwt"
The path must start with /Templates/
A relative path or a file:/// path will break the update function.

Jack Attack Nov 19, 2007 11:01 PM (in response to Jack Attack)First of all Alan and Steve, thanks for the reply.
I finally figured out what happened. I hadn't worked on my site since I was on my PC about 5 months ago. Since then, I went to an iMac and Dreamweaver CS3. I didn't create the site yet wtih the new software. I had to go to Site on the menu and do a new site and show the software where my website root directory was before I could just open the index.dwt file and make changes. It didn't see anything but index.dwt until I told it where the rest of the site was. I appreciate this forum. it's very responsive. Thanks. -
4. Re: Dreaweaver didn't ask me to update pages
Newsgroup_User Nov 20, 2007 4:25 AM (in response to Jack Attack)Here are seven common mistakes that will result in changes not propagating
from Template to child -
1. Rename the Templates folder
2. Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in the site other
than root level
3. Move a template out of the Templates folder.
4. Make changes to an editable region of the template (which will not
propagate)
5. Assume that template changes can be uploaded to the server without also
uploading the changed local files
6. Corrupt the site cache so that the link between template and child page
is broken
7, Improperly create your child pages by simply opening the template,
adding page specific content, and resaving the template with an *.html
extension rather that its *.dwt extension. (you can tell if this is the case
by looking at the code on a child page - if you see anything like <!--
TemplateBeginEditable... then this is what you have done)
The 6th problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced > Recreate Site
Cache, and the six others can be fixed by just not doing them. Have you
done any of those?

I don't see how you can recreate a page from a template when the content of the .hml file is locked. Am I missing something?

Newsgroup_User May 14, 2008 3:57 AM (in response to Newsgroup_User)Is this a thread from November 2007? Why don't you restate the problem?
