I've been trying to export my file as a booklet PDF, I've watched many how-to videos and the option everyone seems to pick isn't on my drop-down menu when I try to export as a booklet PDF.
I click File ->print booklet -> print settings ->printer... then I can't find the all important Adobe PDF!!!
Any ideas how else I can export as a booklet pdf (so the pages can be bound into a book) without this, or even how I can add the pdf OPTION?
Are you on Mac, or Windows, and do you have Acrobat Pro installed?
Print Booklet, as the name says, is a print function, not an export, so you are printing to postscript file and distilling. On Windows, Acrobat Pro installs a virtual printer that combines this into a single step. That virtual printer is no longer installed on Mac (see InDesignSecrets » Blog Archive » Acrobat’s Adobe PDF Printer Replaced in Snow Leopard and read the comments). Without a full version of Acrobat installed, though, neither platform can do the distill operation.
There are other alternatives besides Print Booklet however, including some scripts to impose the file which can then be exported normally, and an inexpensive plugin for more sophisticated impositions called IDImposer: Overview | IDImposer
