    Do I need Flex?

    knew-bee
I have an employee requesting that I license Flex for my studio. I already have Flash CS3. Are there any substantial advantages to Flex over Flash?

Yes. I am really not interested in rehashing the subject though. Hit google.

Besides, Flex is free. You can buy Flex Builder if you want.

So you're saying that you CAN answer this question, you're just choosing not to? Why post at all?

Does anyone else have any USEFUL information for me?
            Thank you in advance.

              Hello knew-bee,
Mr ntsiii partially answered your question:
"Besides, Flex is free. You can buy Flex Builder if you want."

I would suggest to read the following to have a better idea of how Flex can help you:
              http://www.devarticles.com/c/a/Flash/Introduction-to-Flex/
              http://aralbalkan.com/615

              This is nice too:
Designing for Flex – Part 1: Overview and introduction to Flex
              http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/articles/fig_pt1.html

              Hope this will help.
Flex Builder 3 Beta 2 is very nice for visual development of Flex RIA Applications, but it still have some bugs and crashes.

                Knew-bee,
Are you a developer, or a designer? Both work with the same Flash framework, just in different manners. I'm a developer, and I tried to learn Flash a long time ago - I failed at the first hurdle - timelines. Flex is more up my alley.

                Signs you may need Flex:
                1) You are developing an application, not a web site
                2) Your application will be more data centric than visually inspiring
                3) You were considering AJAX in the first place

I'm sure there are many other reasons, but thats where I usually start.

                Cheers,

                Davo
