    Indesign cs5.5 crashes on startup

    DeborahStewart

      Please Help

Indesign cs 5.5 was working , I upgraded laptop since last use

I tried opening old file, and also just opening program and

Last message that flashes before crash is initializing plugins

I upgraded to version below to see if that was the problem

I have read forums but am quite confused

      Using Macbook pro Rentinal 10.8.2

      CS 5.5 version 7.5.3.333

      Crash report is at

      http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=V5WcxvJs

      Thank you for your assistance

      Deborah

Thank you so much for your assistance

          - there is no Sing in that place listed on the help

          Mac OS: [Startup Disk]/Library/Applications Support/Adobe/SING/Mark II/Datastore

          Mac OS: [Startup Disk]/Library/Applications Support/Adobe

only has the following folder options

          acrobat

          Adobe illustrator cs2

          colour

          fonts

          Linguistis

          Updater

I searched for Sing on my hard drive and there is something called Sing.indesign plugin listed at

          applications\ adobeindesign cs5.5\ plugins \ text \Sing.IndesignPlugin

I tried to remove this but it just removed a copy and the problem persisted

also managed to send that file to trash but problem also persisted

          thaks again

          Deborah

Cut the plugin file, then paste to the desktop rather than dragging, or just delete it.

Have deleted file from that place and problem persists - thanks

                The crash is definitely SING...

Are you showing hidden files? Not sure if the SING folder would be hidden.

How do you show hidden files?

I tried using terminal when I read an earlier reply to another forum post but when I typed in the commands nothing happens - is there a step by step for dummies on how to show hidden files - most instructiosn presume a level of knowledge I do not have

                  thanks

Best I can offer is Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion

While I know the crash you reported is caused by SING, I'm a Windows user, so my ability to get into the nitty gritty of file structure on your Mac is a little limited.

Having delete the SING plugin, you might want to check another crash report and verify that the crashed thread section looks the same. There's a helpful article on reading crash reports at Guide to Interpreting InDesign Crash Reports | InDesignSecrets

                      Hi

I did not know about hidden files

I have now found the hidden file

there was no file called datastore - in the hidden library there was Sing/markII/AssocCache

I have taken out and trashed the whole SING folder

I have also tried just remving the markII

                      The problem persists

this is the new crash record

I have searched for tinglue and

Shuksaninit but cannot find files called this

Also have tried setting up a new user and logging in as new user and then opening indesign - program crashes on launch again.

changed language settings - still happened

found old software disc and uninstalled and reloaded - FINALLY it has loaded

                      Thanks for your input
